Where Is Phi Phi Island Located?
The Phi Phi Islands (pronounced “PI-PI”) are located in the Andaman Sea in Thailand, about 40 kilometers southeast of Phuket and about the same distance from Krabi.
There are six islands in total, of which the two main islands are Phi Phi Leh and Phi Phi don, and all of them are considered part of the Krabi province in Thailand.
The only inhabited island is Phi Phi don, which has hotels, restaurants and everything you might need for a short stay.
How To Get To Phi Phi Island

The only way to get to the Phi Phi Islands is by boat from Phuket or Krabi, and you can get there by ferry or speedboat.
There is no airport on the island of Phi Phi, so the nearest flight destination is Phuket International Airport (HKT) or Krabi Airport (KBV). You can search for inexpensive flights to Thailand with Skyscanner.
Many shipping companies fly to Phi Phi every day from Phuket or Krabi and usually include a free shuttle service to and from the hotel.
The slow ferry from Phuket to Phi Phi don takes about 2 hours, and the fast ferry (speedboat) – half less. If you are leaving from Krabi rather than Phuket, the boat trip time to Phi Phi is about 30 minutes shorter.
Please note that this is only a transfer to the main island of Phi Phi don. Upon arrival, you will need to arrange a long-tail boat trip if you want to visit Phi Phi Leh and the rest of the islands. You can organize it on site on the beach of Ton Sai na Phi Phi Dong and the prices are very reasonable.
Another option is to book a day trip to Phi Phi by speedboat from a travel company based in Phuket or Krabi. There are general or private tours and they visit most of the main attractions in a full day. This can be a great option if you have a busy schedule or if you want to avoid trouble.

Upon arrival on the Phi Phi Islands, you will have to pay two travel expenses.
On the island of Phi Phi don, a cash fee of 20 Baht per person is charged at the first disembarkation in the port. They take it from everyone and it helps to pay for the daily garbage removal from the islands. This rate is unique (not daily).
In the areas of the National Park, a cash fee of per person is charged when disembarking in the Maya Bay or on the bamboo Island (Koh Phai). These fees are charged every day when you visit one of these two places.
Some excursions to Phi Phi may already include these fees in the price, but you usually pay them separately in cash when you leave the ship.
Transport: How To Get Around The Phi Phi Islands
There are no car or motorcycle rentals on the Phi Phi Islands and they are not necessary at all; if you are staying on Phi Phi don Island, the whole town is small enough to be easily walked around. You can also rent bicycles.
You can rent a long-tailed boat in Phi Phi don that will take you to nearby islands such as Phi Phi Leh and Bamboo Island. Long-tailed boats are smaller boats, but can accommodate up to 8 passengers, so you can share the boat with friends or other travelers to make it more profitable.
Another option is to go kayaking on Phi Phi don. It’s affordable than renting a boat and you can use kayaks to reach some of Phi Phi don’s hidden beaches, such as Nui Bay and Monkey Beach.
